How does the process work?
There will be an initial brief conversation with both parties about the process to ensure they understand how it works.
The first meeting involves outlining the issues that need to be resolved. There may be discussion about how to provide financial information, the fixing of a date or dates for future meetings and addressing anything which is of immediate concern to either or both parties.
Further meetings will be scheduled at which the parties may exchange financial information and consider options. Other assistance such as financial advice or support for children may also be recommended.
Once there are proposals that the parties find acceptable a summary of them will be prepared together with a summary of the financial information, where required, which will be sent to each of the parties to discuss with their lawyers. After the parties have received independent legal advice and if they are both still happy with the proposals, the lawyers will convert the summary into a legally binding document and carry out any necessary implementation.
